EMPLOYEE CATEGORY DEFINITIONSEmployee categories at Abacus depend on the experience and the technical abilities of the employee. Abacus does not have a separate salary grade or title structure that distinguishes between “software” and “systems engineering.” Employees at each level may have skills in both areas. The more senior categories do have either “Software” or “System” in the title, but this is largely a matter of personal preference. The experience level is determined by a combination of educational achievements and actual working experience within the engineering and computer industry. The technical ability of the employee is a subjective evaluation of the employee’s capabilities to perform tasks required of personnel in the category. The translation of educational achievement to experience is considered only if the major field is Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field such as Mathematics, etc. The completion of the Junior year is equivalent to 1/2 a year’s experience; a bachelor’s degree is equivalent to 1-1/2 years; a Master’s to 2-1/2 years and a Ph.D. is equivalent to 4 years. The approximate minimum experience level (including the educational background ) and average upper experience level for the six Abacus categories are:
