EMPLOYEE CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS


Category 1

Retains responsibilities (and often title) of specialist. Has been delegated contractual responsibility for technical direction of projects and tasks. May handle administrative and personnel issues. As Principal, stands as a primary company resource in a particular technical applications or research area.

Category 2

Responsible for trade-off analysis feasibility studies, system design and development. Develops system requirements; performs make or buy analyses, vendor evaluation, and system acquisition analysis. Manages the activities of analysts on projects. Develops techniques and procedures for configuration management, product development, engineering analysis, programming, etc.

Category 3

Confers with managers, scientists, and engineers to define design, analyses, development, configuration, data management and data processing problems. Formulates statements of those problems and devises solutions. Develops functional procedures for accomplishing analysis, design and implementation to achieve required objectives and assists in or supervises the implementation of those procedures. Analyzes existing systems and makes revisions.

Category 4

Defines the problem, determines system specifications, recommends equipment changes, and designs implementation procedures. Devises data verification methods. Prepares block diagrams and record layouts from which detailed designs can be prepared. May assist in or supervise the preparation of system design and system development.
